The world is a dumpster fire - let's talk about it

‘But Caylie, food isn’t political and you’re Canadian, nothing is directly affecting you.’
The thing is, the very reason our food system is the way it currently is and the reason it’s so tricky to be a full-time farmer comes down to politics, and at the same time, the events that are taking place are no longer about politics, they're about human rights.
My grandmothers home, farm and city were taken over by SS and German soldiers at the end of World War II, in the Netherlands, not Germany, and although it’s definitely too early to tell if World War III will come to fruition, it’s difficult to sit back and not see the correlations between then and now.
I’m not going to tell you how to react, feel or think because you are capable of critical thinking, but I am going to tell you that regardless on who is the leader of the country, in any country, you will always only be a number to those in power. Who runs the country doesn’t truly matter - the biggest thing it's done for us recently is divide the general population and divert us from the issues at hand.
Let's take the states as an example - in my opinion, Trump may be the worst case scenario but ultimately he is the culmination of capitalism, white narcissism and a perfect example of white privilege.
How do I know this? Because black, brown and indigenous people have been telling us that this is how they have been living for years, and we’ve ignored them, told them they didn’t matter and that they weren’t important.
Your community needs you, your neighbour needs YOU, regardless on your preferred political party.
Even though my grandmothers farm was in direct line of enemy territory for the majority of the war, they got by fairly well initially because they had their own food source, because they were neighbourly, because, despite having enemy soldiers in their house and barn regularly they still helped and hid those being hunted.
Make those connections, this is the right time, this is how we avoid division, this is how you create community.
It's time to come back to your village, because world leaders aren't going to change the world, humans who come together in community will.
